Founder story

Our Story

I’m Gauri, the founder of Eirene New York. I started Eirene in early 2025 to create pieces that are thoughtful, functional and effortlessly elevated.

It started with something simple. I couldn’t find a bag that actually worked for my life.

Living in New York, I’m always out the door. I needed something functional but still elevated, a bag that works with any outfit and makes even a t-shirt and jeans feel put together.

I kept running into the same problems. Bags that looked good but didn’t have enough pockets. Bags without zippers, until it rained and suddenly everything inside mattered. I can’t count how many times I left the office just as it started to rain, with my laptop exposed inside my bag. Even getting on the subway with my phone ready to tap showed me how much a front pocket matters, so I don’t have to dig through my bag.

They were small things, but they added up.

The bag I wanted

The perfect work tote for women in every profession

I saw a gap for a bag that was both beautiful and truly functional: a structured leather tote that makes a statement on a table and still supports the demands of everyday life. Elegant and timeless, but practical enough for women who are constantly on the go.

So many totes had no dedicated laptop sleeve. Laptops sat loose inside, with little protection or organization. Mine had to be different, so every detail was designed with intention, from easy-access pockets for daily essentials to a secure, built-in laptop compartment that keeps the workday organized.

I also didn’t want it to feel like a traditional work bag. I wanted something refined and effortless that you would be excited to carry: a bag that pulls a look together without trying too hard and makes getting ready in the morning feel a little better.

When I couldn’t find it, I decided to create it.

Learning as I went

I didn’t study fashion or go to design school

I knew what I was looking for and was willing to figure it out. Building Eirene meant learning everything from scratch, through trial, mistakes and persistence. There were countless samples, constant adjustments and a lot of back and forth to get every detail right.

When we finally had the finished product, it was so rewarding. I was excited for even one person to carry it.

Eirene New York is built on the belief that women shouldn’t have to choose between style, quality and functionality. My goal is thoughtfully designed leather bags that feel luxurious, work for everyday life and stay accessible at a fair price. Nothing unnecessary, just what you actually need, done well.

Building Eirene

Eirene New York didn’t happen overnight. This is how we built it from the ground up: one month, one step, one question at a time.

  1. January 2025

Eirene began with a simple idea. The name is inspired by the Greek goddess of peace and reflects our mission: designing pieces that bring a sense of calm, comfort and ease to your daily life.

  2. February 2025

We began sketching, and after countless iterations we landed on the official tote design. It needed a pocket on the front and the back, and an interior laptop sleeve was non-negotiable. It also had to feel elevated, a bag you could carry straight from work to dinner and still look put together.

  3. March 2025

With the sketches complete, we moved into sourcing materials. Premium leather was always non-negotiable, but choosing the right one was its own journey. Features like the structured pocket needed a leather strong enough to hold its shape yet refined enough to match our aesthetic. It took time, testing and patience to find a material worthy of the design.

  4. April 2025

We knew we would launch the tote in three staple colors, and we felt inspired to add a second handbag: a chic piece that moves from day to night, with a crossbody strap for convenience yet refined enough to carry by hand.

  5. May 2025

Our very first sample arrived. Looking back, it’s amazing to see how much the design has evolved. The tote was much smaller than we envisioned, and the curved shape made the measurements tricky, so it took several tries to get the proportions right. With a long list of notes, we moved on to the second round of samples.

  6. June 2025

Our second and third rounds of samples arrived, and this is when we perfected the Siena Mini Purse in cowhide leather. It turned out exactly as I envisioned. Even as a mini, it has room for your phone, wallet, keys, makeup essentials and more without feeling cramped.

  7. July 2025

Perfecting the laptop sleeve was a priority. It had to fit up to a 15-inch laptop and let it glide in and out smoothly, without making the bag long or bulky. Getting that balance right took several more samples.

  8. August 2025

Many samples arrived this month, each needing small adjustments, which is normal at this stage. But I wanted the bag to be perfect before production. We refined every detail, from the straps, so the tote sits beautifully on the shoulder, to the structure of the front pocket. Every tweak brought us closer to the final design.

  9. September 2025

We perfected our final sample. After many rounds of testing, adjusting and refining, the fit, the shape, the pockets and the proportions all aligned. This is the final Fiora Tote.

  10. October 2025

Eirene came to life in our first photoshoot, with the bags styled, worn and captured in a way that truly reflected our vision.

  11. November 2025

Bulk production wrapped and each piece was readied for its journey, a sign of how close we were to sharing Eirene with the world.

Thank you for being here and for following the Eirene journey.

I hope you love these pieces as much as I have loved creating them.
